The Studio on Bainbridge Island is excited to announce this year’s Young Filmmaker’s Camp presented in partnership with local filmmaker, Matt Longmire.

Beginning Monday, July 9th through Friday, July 13th, we’ll host two groups of future filmmakers to cover everything needed to start creating your own films from start to finish.

Group A will include up to 10 students, ages 10-13 (at the time of camp) and run from 8 AM to 12 PM.

- Please note: Group A is currently full but there is a wait-list. If enough people sign up for the wait-list, we'll be considering adding another week.

Group B will include up to 12 students, ages 14-18 (at the time of camp) and run from 1 PM to 5 PM.

Each group will each cover the same information but the instructor will tailor the material to the group’s ages and learning styles. Students need no pre-existing knowledge of filmmaking to attend.

In this five-day camp, we’ll cover…

  • Screenwriting
  • Pre-production & Planning
  • Lighting Scenes
  • Recording High Quality Sound
  • Cameras & Cinematography
  • Video Editing*
  • Final Post-production & Publishing

*Although we may cover some practical special effects during filming, this camp will not include any graphics-based special effects in the editing phase. It just takes too long and is a highly specialized field. For this class, we’ll discuss iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere but the concepts covered will apply to all editing tools.

The 48 Hour Film Project Weekend

At the end of camp, beginning at 7PM on Friday, July 13th, Group B (Ages 14-18) have the option of participating in the Seattle 48 Hour Film Project. This event is takes place every year and involves hundreds of filmmakers from around the area. During this time, teams write, film, & edit 4-7 minute short films, then get to see their work on the big screen at SIFF Cinema Uptown just under two weeks later. Our team will send a representative in to Seattle for kickoff and drop-off but will film our movie here on Bainbridge with The Studio’s Coppertop office serving as our primary location.

Students from Group A who show an ability to stay focused and work hard may also be given the chance to join the team or observe the event this year.

There is an additional $50 cost per student to participate to cover food & expenses related to the event including team registration. This can be decided and paid any time prior to the weekend film event.
